ICO Icon Editor
Edit ICO files and prepare light/dark favicon variants in your browser. Free online icon editor with PNG pair export.
About this tool
Icon Editor opens Windows ICO files for pixel‑level edits — pencil, eraser, fill, and shapes — and can invert layers for dark‑mode readability, then extract PNGs or rebuild the ICO.
Best for: Touching up existing .ico files, fixing dark‑mode contrast, or exporting per‑size PNGs from an ICO.
How to use it
- Open a Windows ICO file.
- Select a size layer and edit pixels with the toolbar tools.
- Use invert when a dark mark vanishes on dark browser chrome.
- Export an updated ICO or a ZIP of PNG layers (including dark variants when applicable).
Common problems and tips
- ICO will not open. Confirm the file is a real Windows ICO (not a renamed PNG). Re‑export from Icon Converter if needed.
- Undo history feels limited. History is capped in memory for performance. Download a copy before large experimental edits.
- Black favicon vanishes on dark browser Chrome. Use Invert layer / Invert all layers, then export the ZIP which includes *-dark-* PNGs and adaptive HTML link tags.
